Vacancies

We employ a multi-national and multi-cultural workforce of up to around 25 people each summer, partially seasonal, partially year round. We enjoy having diversity among our staff, so we employ people of various backgrounds.

Work can be in any of our sections from the mainstream bee management to honey processing and equipment repairs, or even in our queen bee breeding and nucleus production unit. You may be moved around between jobs as required. We always pay at or above UK government prescribed minimum wage levels, and operate holiday pay and a workplace pension scheme. There is a very pronounced summer maximum to the work, and winters are relatively quiet.

Details of any specific vacancies will be added below when we have them, and these will also be publicized through other channels.

However, having no specific vacancies available does NOT mean we are not interested in you. If you have the right experience and skills, a manner compatible with our other staff, and an attitude that means you tackle challenges and see things needing done without having to be told, then we would like to hear from you. We may have unpublicized or unexpected places, or put you on a list for future openings.

We do not normally offer short-term work experience placements as our teams are restricted in size by the needs of our operation. However, if prepared to put in a season, which would be at least three months, over the May to August period, talk to us. There is much that can be learned here about bee husbandry and breeding, management for crops, disease management, and migration.

We travel around the east of Scotland every day, from lowland farming land to wild mountainous upland areas over the course of the season. Whilst the work is physical and can be at strange hours it is also very rewarding in terms of experience gained and places visited. It’s a great environment for those with an interest in the landscape, flora and fauna of the area.

Notes for overseas applicants: New UK government charges relating to our hiring of skilled workers have made this a very expensive process. We can ONLY consider overseas applications if it is clearly understood that the UK government dictated costs are ultimately paid for by the employee. This can be funded by regular deductions over the duration of your time with us. As part of the points-based assessment for visas you MUST be in possession of the appropriate English language qualification IELTS for UKVI at the prescribed level and have sufficient experience and/or training to be considered for a ‘Skilled Worker’ visa.

Update April 2024: at this time our work is no longer on the list of eligible occupations for skilled worker visas. We are hopeful this will change again in the near future.

Further update July 2025: Its has been made even more difficult for us obtaining required staff from outside the UK. It is now virtually impossible.

HOWEVER

Non UK staff with indefinite leave to remain, settled or pre-settled status, the dependents of those here on other visas and with permission to work, and those on the Ukraine or Afghanistan refugee schemes are eligible for employment with us.
